
WORKS AND SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Introduction:
Initially there was one Department namely Public Works Department (PWD) and it consisted of Irrigation Department, Building Department, Roads Department and Public Health Engineering Department. With the passage of time these Departments started parting ways from each other and become totally independent with separate budget and name. Before mid sixteen, Buildings and Roads Department (B&R) was one Department later on it was bifurcated in two Departments each one was headed by Chief Engineer under Secretary, C&W Department. After Devolution Communication & Works Department was renamed as Works & Services Department and some of its officers were transferred to District Government while others were retained in the Provincial set-up. The Education Engineering Works, which were with Education Department before devolution, were transferred to Works & Services Department.
